Frequently asked questions

Are you Trico Shrimp Company?

George and Chris Gala, the owners of Big Daddy's Seafood Market, were co-owners of Trico Shrimp Company for 45 years before the partnership ended. Although we are not Trico Shrimp Company, we still carry on their legacy and values at our own establishment.

How much do I buy?

We typically recommend a 1/2-1 lb of seafood per person.

How do I cook shrimp?

There are numerous ways to cook shrimp, such as grilling, baking, frying, sautéing, boiling, or steaming. One of the most traditional ways is boiling. Just bring water to a boil, toss in your shrimp, and let them cook for 2-3 minutes. You'll know they're ready when the meat turns white and they curl into a C shape. If they curl into an O shape, you've cooked them too long.

Where does your seafood come from?

We strive to carry all Florida products with an exception of a few items.

Are all of your products wild caught in the USA?

Absolutely! We exclusively stock products that are wild-caught in the USA, free from any chemicals or preservatives.

Do your shrimp have a season?

Florida pink shrimp can be caught year-round, as they do not have a specific season.

Do you cater?

Although we do not provide catering services, we do offer a variety of platters. Our shrimp and stone crab platters are cooked and ready to be served at any event.

How do you cook stone crab?

Crabbers are required to cook stone crab within 6 hours of catching them to ensure fresh and tender meat so all of our stone crab are fully cooked. You can eat them chilled or heat them up for just a mintue or two.

Do you ship?

Yes! Shipping is available for any of our products, sauces, and seasonings. All seafood is hand selected from the fresh catch of the day, vacuum sealed, then frozen to be shipped over night. Call to get a quote on shipping.

Can I consume raw seafood?

We offer a range of items that can be eaten raw, but it's important to know there are risks associated with consuming raw products.

How do you store seafood?

For storing fresh seafood, we suggest placing your product in a plastic bag and leaving the bag wide open to allow air to flow.

Can I freeze your products?

Most of our products can be frozen, but there are different methods for different products. For shrimp, we suggest submerging them in water in a tightly sealed bag. As for crab, fish, and lobsters, we recommend vacuum sealing them - a service we offer. If you don't have a vacuum sealer, use a ziplock bag and try to get rid of as much air as you can.

Do you offer any cooked ready to eat products?

We've got a great selection of ready-to-eat goodies for you to enjoy. From The Fishermens Daughter, we offer three delicious dips: smoked mullet, smoked salmon, and fresh blue crab. We also have smoked mullet and salmon fillets available. If you're in the mood for shrimp,  for an additional $3 per lb we will steam our fresh shrimp for you. In just 2-3 minutes you can enjoy the freshest steamed shrimp around. Stone crab is also a ready to eat product. Our stone crab are caught, cooked, and brought directly to us to ensure fresh and tender meat. Crack them open and enjoy!

How long will your seafood last in the fridge?

Our fresh raw products should be kept in the refrigerator only 2-3 days before cooking or freezing. After cooking, store seafood in the refrigerator 3 days.

Why are your shrimp pink?

Many people mistakenly believe that our shrimp are cooked because of their pink color, but in reality, our Florida pink shrimp naturally have a pink glow even when raw.
